Deadlines for the next three issues are as follows: July/August (Issue One) 15th
June 2007 Please feel free to make suggestions for books to be reviewed. Reviews should be 1200 up to a maximum of 1650 words (or see 'fees' below). If you would like to review and compare two books on similar themes, please let me know ahead of time as the additional graphics (illustrations of covers etc) can affect the area available for text. Reviewing style: the magazine is loosely modelled on the Literary Review, www.literaryreview.co.uk. Fees: £40 per review
(based on 1200-1600 words -
a 'maxi' review taking up a 1-2 page spread or two reviews combining to
the same size) Payment is sent out on the issue date of each magazine for reviews printed in that issue. We cannot promise to print a review, nor, if a review is accepted, can we specify which issue it will go in. We will hold submitted reviews on file; please let us know if you wish to withdraw a review in order to submit it elsewhere. Once a review has been accepted we will endeavour to send you a proof pdf of the print format, by email, within 5 days. Please be ready to make any corrections and email changes to us. The closer to the copy deadline you submit your work, the less time there is for this to be done; regrettably if work is submitted with less than a week to copy deadline there may not be time. Please check the copy deadline and if you are submitting close to this, then specify whether you are happy for your piece to be used in the next issue without the opportunity for checking proofs, or if you would prefer it to go in a later issue. We ask only for first publication rights for reviews, and possible use on the website, although we may consider reviews that have already been published elsewhere. Please state when submitting if the piece has already been published in any form, including print, web or audio. We reserve the right to cut reviews as necessary to fill the space available. However we will be reasonable about this - we will not cut a 600 word review to fit a 200 word space! Other than this the majority of alterations are to formatting. We try to avoid cuts that significantly alter style, flow or meaning; however different writers have different feelings about this. If you hate to have even a single word changed or cut, (1) say so when you submit, and (2) submit in good time so that we can send a proof back to you. |

***STOP PRESS*** Christmas Issue 3 We are considering a 'books as gifts' supplement to go with this issue, to include some non fiction and children's books. Reviews should be 200 words or thereabouts. |
